The company was founded in 1999 by a couple of moonlighting military computer scientists as a server and network staff augmentation company, during the heyday of the Dotcom Era. Many of the current consulting staff and all of the senior leadership were there, in the middle of it all. The crazy launch parties. Pulling Cat5 all night and sleeping under desks all morning. The IPOs. The do-or-die Mezzanine Rounds. Firefighting and sleepless weeks grinding the next killer app through QA and into production. And, ultimately, the worthless Friends & Family stock options. If you were there, well, you know. If you weren't there, well, maybe Han Solo said it best: "The crazy thing is, it's true... All of it. It's all true." That was more than 23 years ago and the surface of IT has been substantially reshaped in the intervening years but the mantle is the same. If you survived the Dotcom crash with your sanity intact, you learned a few things. The things that work. The things that are portable through industry, through technical evolution, and most important, through time. How to properly scope projects, manage expections and budget, communicate, and fundamentally solve problems. If you didn't, you're probably not working in IT anymore.
Solviturum thrives today because, while we've evolved our service offerings to stay ahead of the innovation and evolution curves, we've never forgotten that sound and durable solutions aren't fashioned merely from fads, or trends, or hype. They are born of experience, of skill, of dedication to task, at the confluence of sound strategy and competent tactics. We know what we're doing because we've already made the mistakes, learned the lessons, and refined our processes through the knowledge forged in the crucible of competition. Our customers are the beneficiaries of that evolution. From our humble, yet entrepreneureal beginnings, through acquisions and rebrandings, we've always subscribed to the tenant that our people are our brand. Our pride is in our talent and our client successes, and not in a seductive corporate campus, which is most decidedly not where we reinvest our revenue as evidenced by our managing partner's 24 year old, sagging Aeron B desk chair.
We don't try to dazzle with a buzzword-laden website and glossy marketing swag. In fact, this was probably made with Wordpress or Weebly because the site is airgapped from all of our backend systems and, besides, we aren't web developers. We didn't have a marketing site at all until late 2019, when a small consulting shop we acquired offered to make it. Where we do invest our marketing dollars is in our people. We value real relationships with our clients, both pre- and post-sales. We don't hire sales people. We hire client relationship managers with the goal of creating long term value for our customers and long term revenue for the company, through the kind of relationships in which we'd be happy to take the other side. One of the founders' guiding principles is to safeguard our clients' resources as if they were our own.
We know what we're doing, we do it well and at a reasonable price, and we can do it for you.
Jack is a founder and the managing partner. He is also the lead consultant in the vCxO practice with over 25 years in the industry. The proud father of two very precocious children, he is also an avid SCUBA diver, pilot, Navy veteran, vintage motorcyclist, watch collector, and restorer of 1970s analog stereo gear.
When he's not doing any of that, you can usually find him in his back yard, trying to get the tennis ball back from his incorrigible Golden Retriever.
He serves on the boards of 2 non-profits and is an advisor to a local small business incubator.
Jim is our Chief Operating Officer and also a founding partner. He is a 20+ year industry veteran and has been a leader throughout his adult life as student, athlete, Army officer, and IT executive. He excels as mentor and servant leader, believing leadership is more about enabling colleagues to succeed rather than the exercise of power. Over his career, he has worked with thought leaders in both public and private sectors and at all levels. He has mentored startups and strategized with the leaders of Fortune 5 companies.
Jim serves on the boards of two charities, as well as two startups, but is most proud of this role as Fulltime Dad.
Ryan joined us following a military career and stints in Big 4 consulting to direct the efforts of our cybersecurity professionals. When he's not hiding in elevators or pretending to be an exterminator, he enjoys time with his children, ziplining, and, unfortunately, playing the accordion.
Industry and military veteran, logistics and efficiency expert, utility-scale energy innovator, and performance improvement guru, Claire oversees operations at our headquarters, manages the energy practice, and tends to the affairs of the partnership. A fitness enthusiast, in the little free time she has, Claire teaches yoga and Pilates, does Zumba and runs. She volunteers in a local elementary school, with the United Way's literacy project, and conducts free Yoga-in-the-Park classes for local residents.
